Amidst this COVD-19 Pandemic, when lakhs of migrant workers are returning home and are unable to find any jobs, a great initiative has been taken by the central government in association with the uttar pradesh government.
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Atma Nirbhar Uttar Pradesh Rojgar Abhiyan via video conference with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. According to PM, this program will generate 1.25 crore jobs for the unemployed, especially the migrant workers who are jobless right now.
PM said, “The initiative taken by central government is to generate jobs for migrant laborers. Uttar Pradesh Government has done a great job by not only depending on the 25 job categories provided by the central government, instead they added some categories on their own. This job scheme will help the MSMEs and many unemployed who are finding it difficult to get jobs due to this COVID-19 Lockdown. Foreign investments are finding places to invest in India and Uttar Pradesh has been their choice. So it is expected to get foreign investments as well as locl investments in this scheme.”
Centre has chosen 116 most affected districts. In these districts, unemployment has hit the most. 31 districts from Uttar Pradesh saw the inclusion of this program. Centre has an estimate of Rs. 50,000 Crore for this Program. The scheme would run for almost 125 days.
Bihar has also included few of their districts in this scheme. As we know that Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were the most affected state of Reverse Migration due to the nationwide coronavirus lockdown. In order to stabilize employment, this initiative has been taken.
The “Atmanirvar Rojgar Yojna” is a part of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat Plan” under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The total allotment for this package is around Rs. 20 lakh Crore, which is around 10 percent of India’s total GDP. This facility can be availed by every Indian citizen. Under this scheme, Small Shop Owners, MSMEs will be beneficial. Loans up to Rs. 10000 will be waived off. Local and foreign investments will be made in order to build an Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Keeping in Mind the job losses of workers during Nationwide Lockdown due to COVID-19, this scheme was launched. Prime Minister Modi also said that the scheme is for every Indian citizen who is facing difficulties in this situation.
While States like West Bengal and Chattishgarh have been excluded from this scheme. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she will hold a all-party meeting to discuss on this issue. While Chattishgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that he would write a letter to PM Modi asking why the state has been excluded from the scheme.
On this, PMO said that the scheme is Just in an initial phase and it will expand to other affected states with time.
Apart from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, four other selected states are Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Rajasthan.
